4.  1850 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  can't find William or his parents.  I did a page-by-page check of the 1850 census of Ellington and Gilmer Twps., Adams Co., IL, and did not find any STRAUBs (or variations).   Nancy KENDALL (æ 16, b. OH), is living in the Town of Melrose, Adams Co., IL (pp. 174A-174B), with her parents, Adam KENDELL (æ 44, b. VA) & Isabella (æ 42, b. VA), plus siblings.

2.  1860 Census Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #27 of 37):  Quincy P.O., Ellington Twp., T1S.R8W, Adams Co., IL, p. 509, PN 509, 3739/3861, enumerated 12 Sep 1860, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•

It was Nancy who was born in Ohio. John STROUB / STRAUB is William's brother.

3.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #29 of 38):  Fowler P.O., Gilmer, Adams Co., IL, Roll M593_186, p. 169A, PN 27, 186/174, enumerated 2 July 1870, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•

Where was William in 1860?  Is his age wrong?  Adams Co., IL, is just across the Mississippi River from Missouri, so it's possible one or more of the children was born there.
