Straub, John E. 

Services for John E. "Boots" Straub, of Staunton, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Williamson Funeral Home there with the Rev. Clint Braman officiating.  Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Hamel.  Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.  The family suggests memorials be directed to the Southern Illinois Hospice.  Mr. Straub died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 1999, in his home.  He was 73 years old on May 16.  He was road commissioner in Staunton Township for 24 years before retiring in 1997.  He also worked in construction and as a coal miner.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge 177 A.F.&A.M. and VFW Post 1241, both in Staunton.  He was born in Staunton, a son of John and Myrtle Bozarth Straub.  He married Hazel Barr on August 21, 1946, in Hillsboro; she died October 4, 1978.  He married Violet Martin on November 1, 1980; she survives.  Surviving also are a daughter, Dianne Masinelli and husband Dennis of Staunton; son, Fred Straub and wife Janice of Mt. Olive; step daughter, Marge Schaake of Baldwin, Mo.; step sons, Kent Martin of Oswego, Dennis Martin of Marshall; sisters, Marge Goehe of Staunton, Elizabeth Vazzi of Worden, Wilma Melchert of Gillespie; and 16 grandchildren.  Preceding him in death were four sisters and three brothers.
