This record is hard to figure. Did the enumerator simply screw up and put Kate first (along with a big fib about her age)? Or is pattern-maker Jacob STRAUB, widower, living with dressmaker Kate STROUD, and the enumerator didn't "get" that Jacob's surname was STRAUB, not STROUD. "Kate" is a nickname for Catharine, so her given name doesn't actually help us here.
