Our subject was married to Nancy Ellen McCONNELL at this time, so I have to dismiss William's wife given name, "Mary," as enumerator error.  They are listed next to William's brother, J. [Jacob] Alfred STREET (æ 24, b, OH), William's father was born in England, and Lester is an uncommon given name, so I don't doubt this is our subject.

I normally don't use the tombstone images due to copyright concerns, but I do so here under the Fair Use concept of academic review because... Many secondary sources give our subject middle initial, "M," but I have yet to find any primary document giving him a middle name or initial.  In viewing this image of his gravestone, it occurs to me that someone, somewhere along the line, may have mis-interpreted "WM," which is the abbreviation for "William," for initials, "W.M.," and everyone since is just copying that error. If you have found a primary document giving our subject middle initial, "M," please share it.  Otherwise, and unless and until you do, I recommend not giving William a middle initial.  Bad data are not better than no data — mistakes mislead.
