Asberry John SMITH
Alice Rose STRUBE
WARNING:  Although descendants insist Alice was the mother of all the children, it appears to me that our subject had to have had a prior wife who was the mother of Joseph.  My position is based on Alice's youth (she was only eleven years old in 1889) and the fact that, in the 1900 census, she indicates she has been married only six years, not eleven.

*For A.J.'s marital status, something had been written, then "M" written over it.  For A.J.'s marriage duration, it looks like someone wrote "11," then wrote "6" over it.  For Joe's birth, it looks like "8" was written over "6."  Is their marriage date really correct?  It appears, for several reasons, that A.J. had a prior wife, who is the mother of Joseph.

4.  1910 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  can't find, but said to be living on a farm outside McAlester, Pittsburgh Co., OK.

5.  Messages posted to the STRUBE Surname Board (online at Ancestry.com).  Despite Alice's youth, descendants insist she was Asberry's only wife and the mother of all three children.  The say a family bible says they married 5 Jul 1889, but I wonder… was the 1889 marriage Alice's or Asberry's, to someone else?
