Anderson SLADE
Emiline __?__
Please Note:  I do not have their marriage record, so I don't know if Andy's wife's maiden name really was FUQUA, as alleged.  A source at WorldConnect suggests she may be this Emeline FUQUA, but she definitely was not.  That Emeline FUQUA was unmarried and living in Caswell Co., NC, in the 1850 and 1860 censuses with her own (illegitimate) son, surnamed FUQUA, who was born in NC in 1847.  She cannot have been the woman birthing children in Louisiana in the 1840s, '50s, and '60s because no one can be in two places at once.  Also, while the woman Andy married is alleged to have been a "free white," the 1870 and 1880 censuses enumerate her as black, not white, or even mulatto.  But whether she was black or white, it is certain she was not the alleged Emeline FUQUA of Caswell Co., NC. And I wonder…

Is the maiden name of Andy's wife really known?  Or did someone find Emeline FUQUA in the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Caswell Co., NC, and, based on Andy's tombstone and census records, just run with it?

I have not been able to find William and Caroline in the 1870 or 1800 census, so haven't been able to determine her age via the census.  Based on her marriage date, Caroline was born ca. 1849 — because the average date of first marriage for a female is 19.  However, the birthdate of Richard suggests she was likely a year or so older.  If she had been younger than Richard (i.e., b. 1851/2), she would have needed her parents' consent to marry.
