Anderson SLADE
Emiline __?__ |
Please Note: I do not have their marriage record, so I don't
know if Andy's wife's maiden name really was FUQUA, as alleged. A
source at WorldConnect suggests she may be this
Emeline FUQUA, but she definitely was not. That Emeline FUQUA
was unmarried and living in Caswell Co., NC, in the 1850 and 1860 censuses
with her own (illegitimate) son, surnamed FUQUA, who was born in NC in
1847. She cannot have been the woman birthing children in
Louisiana in the 1840s, '50s, and '60s because no one can be in two places
at once. Also, while the woman Andy married is alleged to have been
a "free white," the 1870 and 1880 censuses enumerate her as black, not
white, or even mulatto. But whether she was black or white, it is
certain she was not the alleged Emeline FUQUA of Caswell Co., NC. And I
wonder…
Is the maiden name of Andy's wife really known? Or did someone find Emeline FUQUA in the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Caswell Co., NC, and, based on Andy's tombstone and census records, just run with it? |

Everything I have is online at this web site. I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case, There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page. |
