John Haines ROSE
Sarah HAINES
Husband:  John Haines/Hains ROSE
Birth (from censuses):  1820-27, most likely 1826/7, Greene Co., PA
Birth (from tombstone):  6 Sep 1819
Death:  23 Mar 1885, West Grove Twp., Davis Co., IA
Disposition:  buried Old John's Cemetery, Davis Co., IA
Occupation:  farmer
Father:  John R. ROSE
Mother:  Anne COX

John's 1850-80 census records do not pin down his birth date, but based on his parents' early census records (1820/30/40), John had to have been born between 1825 and 1830, and John's census records jibe better with that time frame than with an earlier one.  What definitely does not jibe is John's date of birth on his tombstone, which is too early.

Marriage:  2 Jun 1850, Whitely Twp., Greene Co., PA
Wife:  Sarah HAINES / HANES
Birth:  1814/5 or 1817/8, Greene Co., PA
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  George HAINES
Mother:  Jane McCORD
Adopted? Child:
1.  Martha J. ROSE, b. 1848/9, VA [probably now WV]
Child?:
2.  Solomon ROSE, b. 1853/4, PA, possibly in Greene Co., PA
Keywords for search engines:  genealogy; USA, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia

3.  1860 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #16 of 29):  Orleans P.O., Fox River Twp., Davis Co., IA, Roll M653_317, p. 903, PN 75, 530/494, enumerated 21 Jun 1860, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
John H Rose 39 M   Farmer 150 125 Pensylvania
Sarah    " 45 F         "
Martha J " 11 F         Virginia
Solomon  "  6 M         Pensylvania
Our subjects were not married until 2 Jun 1850 and Martha was not in their household in the 1850 census, so it appears she is not their daughter.  (Her birthplace, "Virginia," was probably West Virgnia.) But given that Solomon appears to be their only other child, I'm wondering if both Solomon and Martha weren't adopted.  In other words, this couple appears to be infertile, and such couples often adopt the family orphans.
