The "M1" in Column 8 implies that Joseph is still living (i.e., they are separated, not divorced or widowed).  I can't find Joseph, though there is a married Joseph H. REED living alone in Beaver County, but he appears to be a different man, who is also separated from his wife, Sabina M. REED, who is also living with her children and not her husband.
