5a. 1920 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com): there is a Russell RADCLIFF (æ 24, b. CA/FL/CA) boarding at 1803 Ellamont Avenue, Baltimore (Ward 15), MD (p. 255A), with the BIEN? family. I wouldn't think this was our subject, except 1) I can't find him anywhere else, 2) he works for the Gas Company, and 3) his presence here would explain how he met Margaret. As a boarder, there is no way he would have been the informant on this record, so we have to assume the head-of-household was guessing at the birthplaces for Russell, perhaps because these were places he had talked about having lived. Checking Google Maps, his address is only about 3 miles from the HASLUP's home on Calvert Street.

Margaret appears to be saving face by calling herself "widowed," rather than "divorced." There was a significant stigma associated with being divorced at that time, and my own grandmother did the same thing in the 1900 census (i.e., calling herself a widow when in fact she was divorced).
