p. 102 Valley.  The mother, Mrs. John Lyon, Sr. (nee Margaret Armstrong) was a sister of Col. John Armstrong, of Colonial war memory, and an aunt of Gen. John Armstrong, of the Revolutionary War.  There were nine children,* and they or their descendants have been prominent citizens of the state ever since...


*William (m. Alice Armstrong), James, Samuel (m. Eleanor Blaine), John, Mary, Frances (m. Wm. Graham), Margaret, Alice, and Agnes.
Margaret's brother, Brig. Gen. John ARMSTRONG (Sr.) (who married her husband's sister, Rebecca LYON) was the one notable in both the Colonial and Revolutionary Wars.  Her nephew, Brig. Gen. John ARMSTRONG, Jr., fought as a young man in the Revolutionary War, but he was most noted for achievements later in life (e.g., Pennsylvania Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, Minister to France, Minister to Spain, Secretary of War during the War of 1812, etc.).
