2.  1860 Census Every-Name Index and Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #50 of 56):  Pottsville P.O., Borough of Pottsville (North West Ward), Schuylkill Co., PA, Roll M653_1178, p. 510, PN 100, 726/726, enumerated 23 Jun 1860, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
John Lewis 28 M   Laborer   50 Wales
Ann      " 37 F         "
Winifred "  4 F         Penna
The enumerator apparently heard "Gwennie" and mis-interpreted it as "Winnie," hence, Winifred.

3.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #55 of 102):  Liberty P.O., Bloss Twp., Tioga Co., PA, Roll M593_1456, p. 28B, PN 56, 383/414, enumerated 16 Aug 1870, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Lewis John 37 M W coal miner     Wales
_____ Winiford 35 M W "    "     "
_____ Anna 15 F W At home     Pa
_____ Edward  9 M W       "
_____ Harriet  4 F W       "
_____ Ruth  2 F W       "
John's wife was a male coal miner?  Was the enumerator drunk?  Again, an enumerator has heard "Winnie" for "Gwennie" and then, in addition, switched the names of the wife and eldest daughter (unless perhaps both were named "Gwendolyn Ann" or "Anna Gwendolyn," which is certainly possible).  I'm not thrilled with the match here, but it's obvious we can't take this record too literally, and it's the closest match I could find.

4.  1880 Census (indexed at FamilySearch.org; page image online at Ancestry.com, Image #28 of 44):  20 Alexander St., Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA, Roll T9-0148, p. 464D, PN 28, SD 1, ED 102, enumerated 8 Jun 1880, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1880 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

Gwennie is "unemployed"?  A married woman with two children is UNEMPLOYED?!  <sputter>  I cannot find Edward, Harriet, or Ruth LEWIS in the index, so it appears the three youngest children are deceased (i.e., not found living with their parents or with anyone else).  Perhaps their deaths precipitated the move to a warmer clime, though it appears their occupations (building and running steel mills) drove their movements .
