2.  1840 U.S. Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  I can't find John's father, at least not in Harrison Co., VA, or Westfield Twp., Delaware Co., OH.  There is a Timothy CHAMBERLAIN (æ 30-40) living in Palmyra, Wayne Co., NY (p. 45), with his family, which includes three daughters, ages 0-15.

3.  1840 U.S. Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #9 of 16; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):-
1840 OH Delaware Co. Westfield Twp. Roll 391 pp. 222B-223A Ln. 29 John Kester 000 010 - 100 100 0001000
These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 20-29 1810-1820 = John (b. 1817)
1 female 4 or under 1835-1840 = Caroline (b. 1840)
1 female 15-19 1820-1825 = Jane (b. 1820)

4a.  1850 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #29 of 35):  Westfield Twp., Morrow Co., OH, Roll M432_716, p. 14B, 196/196, enumerated 31 Jul 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):-

Jane    " 30 F       NY
Carolin " 10 F       O
Mary    "  8 F       "
Helen   "  6 F       "
Joseph  "  4 M       "
Jerome  "  1 M       "
George Foust 17 M   Black Smith   "
George is most likely John's nephew, son of his sister, Elizabeth (KESTER) FOUST.

4b.  1850 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  There's an Elizabeth CHAMBERLAIN (æ 73, b. CT) living alone in Westfield Twp., Morrow Co., OH (p. 14A); she's listed next to Timothy CHAMBERLAIN (æ 54, b. NY) and his wife, Cyrene (æ 55, b. NY).  Secondary sources show Elizabeth as the wife of Samuel CHAMBERLAIN (1771-1835) and the mother of Timothy.  They do not give Timothy a daughter, Jane, but he's old enough to be her father.  His age, here, appears to be the correct one (see 1840), as opposed to 1860 and 1870.
