The correct spelling of our subject's given name is Aquila; it's Latin for "eagle."

My first thought was that our subject's parents were Aquilla JUSTICE (1804-1877) and his wife, Mary "Polly" GHORMLEY (1806-1866), but there are some fatal flaws in trying to make that connection. As can be seen below, Aquilla's apparent mother, Mary, is living with him in the 1850 census, and she was born ca. 1800 in Ohio. Mary (GHORMLEY) JUSTICE was born in 1806 in Pennsylvania. We could chalk this up to enumerator errors, except that Mary (GHORMLEY) JUSTICE (æ 44, b. PA) is living with her husband in the 1850 census of Parke County, Indiana. She can't be in two places at once.
