4.  1820 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #4 of 7 — list was roughly alphabetized; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
1820 PA Perry Co. Toboyne [now Jackson] Twp. Roll M33_104 p. 327 Ln. 21 Jacobs Daniel 000100-10100-010
These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 19-25* 1794-1801 = Daniel
1 female 9 or under 1810-1820 = Maria (b. 1820)
1 female 16-25 1794-1804 = Susanna (b. 1795/6)
1 person engaged in manufactures
*In the 1820 Census, the third column is age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25, which means any individual in column three is duplicated in column four.  So, for an accurate representation of the household, the number in column three should be subtracted from the number in column four. If, after the subtraction, any individuals remain in column four, then they have to be age 19-25, thus creating a "new," more precise age class.
The columns following the first 11 were non-standard in Perry County in 1820; those columns were:
  12.  Number of persons engaged in Agriculture.
13.  Number of persons engaged in Manufactures.
14.  Foreigners not naturalized.

5.  1830 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #23 of 28; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
1830 PA Perry Co. Toboyne [now Jackson] Twp. Roll 156 p. 256 Ln. 8 Daniel Jacobs 120 001 - 201 001
These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 4 or under 1825-1830 = Son C
2 males 5-9 1820-1825 = Son B
= Son A
1 male 30-39 1790-1800 = Daniel
2 females 4 or under 1825-1830 = Daughter A
= Sarah (b. 1826/7)
1 female 10-14 1815-1820 = Maria (b. 1820)
1 female 30-39 1790-1800 = Susan (b. 1795/6)

6.  1840 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):
There are two Daniel JACOBS in Ohio:  one in Allen County and one in Mercer County (see extracted records below).  There are eight William JACOBS in Ohio:  one each in Allen, Brown, Coshocton, Fairfield, Franklin, Morgan, Muskingum, and Wayne Counties; the William JACOBS in Allen County (00001-0001) cannot be our subject.

Geographically, either of these Daniel JACOBS records has the potential of being our subject because Auglaize County was formed from Allen County in 1848 and Mercer County is adjacent to Auglaize County.  The problem with the Allen County record is that Daniel and Susan are in the wrong age class, although that's not enough to rule this record out because such errors are common in the early censuses, expecially when the informant is the wife and she's fibbing about her age.  The problem with the Mercer County record is that Sarah, whom we know didn't marry until 1845 so should still be at home, is in the wrong age class; but, again, being off one age class is a minor error that doesn't rule a record out.  The big problem with the Mercer County record is the five daughters under age ten, none of whom are living with Susanna in the 1850 census.  These girls can be explained away by postulating a married child with his/her spouse and children living with them, but this explanation doesn't give us confidence that we have found our subject.

JACOBS is a common surname, so I think it likely neither of the Daniel JACOBs in Ohio in 1840 is our subject.  Given that Susannah has no young children with her in the 1850 census (see below), I think it most likely that in 1840 Susanna is widowed and living with kin, so neither she nor Daniel show up as head of household.  What we need to find are their tombstones and wills.
