*In the 1820 Census, the third column is age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25; therefore, any individual in column three is duplicated in column four.  By subtracting the number in column three from the number in column four, you can create an age class "19-25."

8.  Email from [name withheld by request] (12 Sep 2001):
I see [on your web page] that Wm Hopson 1759-1832 married 2nd Mary Young Greer.  Her first husband shown as Mr. Greer.
This is my line and am curious to know where the maiden name of Mary Young came from.  I see not ref. note on it.  I have found no records to indicate what Mary's maiden name was.  Her first husband was Jonathan Greer Sr. of Laurens, SC.  Since their first child was b. in SC it seems likely that they were married there before venturing into western Ky.  I would be interested and grateful to know if you have a source for the Young name as Mary Greer Hopson's maiden name.
I replied indicating the source was the above Everton family group sheet.

9.  Email from [same person] (31 Jul 2003):
Widower Wm. Hopson (1759-1832) md. widow Mrs. Mary Greer (husband Jonathan Sr. d. 1808) Mrs. Greer's SON Jonathan Greer md. his stepfather Wm. Hopson's granddaughter Mary Ann "Polly" Hopson (dtr. of John and Aggie Good Hopson) in 1830...  The 1806 will of John Owens (md. Mary Adair) of Laurens County, SC, mentions a daughter MARY GREER, to whom he leaves a small amount of money and notes that it was to be paid to her or to anyone authorized to collect it for her.  James T. Greer, Sr. and wife Elizabeth sold out in Laurens Co. in 1798 and moved to western Ky along with many others from the area.  Jas. T. Greer's children were Jonathan Greer (md. to Mary who later md. Wm. Hopson in 1819 in Xn Co, KY), Isaac, Wm., Ruth and Jas. T. Jr. Greer.  All of them went to KY in 1799 -- I  think it is very likely that the Mary Greer referred to in the 1806 John Owens' will refers to the wife of Jonathan Greer who d. 1808 in Livingston Co, Ky.  This Jonathan Greer and wife Mary (also called Polly) had at least one dtr. Elizabeth Greer b. 1796 in SC, and son Jonathan Greer (b. 1802 in Ky) who md. 1830 to granddtr. of his stepfather Wm. Hopson.  Wm. Hopson and Mrs. Mary Greer had no children as they were both older people when they married.  She obtained widow's benefits on his Revolutionary pension after he died.  Her son Jonathan Greer (jr.) testified that he was present at the death of Wm. Hopson.
John OWEN's will proves that he had a daughter, Mary, who married a GREER.  It doesn't prove that his daughter was the wife of Jonathan GREER — Mary was a very common given name and, as is said, the families lived near each other so were intermarrying.  I think there needs to be some corroborating evidence that the wife of Jonathan GREER was John OWEN's daughter, especially given that another source says her maiden name was YOUNG.
