William H. HITE
Gertrude CARRICO
Husband:  William [Henry or Henson] HITE
Birth:  1 Nov 1873, Fancy Farm, Graves Co., KY
Death:  18 Jan 1961, Milburn, Carlisle Co., KY
Occupation:  farmer
Father:  Samuel E. HITE (1833-1918)
Mother:  Mary Thomas GARNETT (1832-1931)

Some secondary sources give him middle name, "Henson," and others, "Henry."  I don't know which, if either, is correct.

Marriage:  15 Nov 1903, Carlisle Co., KY
Wife:  Gertrude "Gertie" CARRICO
Birth:  16 Nov 1885, KY
Death:  16 Mar 1962, Owensboro, Daviess Co., KY
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  Francis "Frank" Marion CARRICO
Mother:  Eliza Jane WILLETT

Some secondary sources give her first name, "Mary," but I've found no primary document giving her that name.

Children:
— born in Ballard Co., KY, or Carlisle Co., KY:
1.  Ruby HITE, b. 1905/6
2.  Cordelia "Cordie" HITE, b. 1906/7
3.  Melvin Joseph HITE, b. Jun/Jul 1909
4.  Lois HITE, b. 1913/4
5.  Lucian HITE, b. Mar 1915
6.  Edward HITE, b. Feb 1919

— born in Carlisle Co., KY:
7.  Thomas HITE, b. 1920/1
8.  Geneva HITE, b. 1923/4

Some secondary sources give them a daughter "Edna" (13 Dec 1920 - 6 Jan 2005, see SSDI), but I see no evidence they had such a daughter.  This appears to be a misreading of "Edw." in the 1920 census made the worse by tacking her to our subjects with no evidence to support the connection other than the coincidence of a misread name.

Some secondary sources give them a son, "Milner," (b. 1910; d. 1910); this appears to be a misreading of "Melvin" in the 1910 census.

Some secondary sources have Melvin deceased in 1917, but he is obviously still living in the 1920 census.

Some secondary sources have son Edward as "Edward Larue HITE" (25 Dec 1918 - 28 Mary 1992), others have him as "Joseph Edward HITE" or "Joseph Edwin HITE," with the same birth and death dates and/or spouse.  I don't know which, if any, is correct, especially as our subject's son was born Feb 1919, at least according to the census.

Some secondary sources appear to have misread, "Edw." as "Edna" — or one did, and everyone else is just copying him/her.
