Why are the younger children surnamed "Marks"?  Are they adopted?  In the cell for Minnie's father's birthplace, it looks like the enumerator wrote "New O"(?), then wrote above it, "Soh Carolina."  But the fact that they give "SC" as the birthplace of their father surely means they are John & Anna's children — it was unusual for a Philadelphian to have been born in SC.  They are living next door to a William SHEPARD (æ 50) and his wife, Mary (æ 30), with whom is living a Hanna H. MARKS (æ 70), identified as "mother," though she is presumably William's mother-in-law and Mary's mother (everyone in the household was born in PA).  So is this the source of the error?  That is, a mistake in transcription when the enumerator entered his field notes on the population schedules?  Or is there some relationship between these two families?

Everything I have is online at this web site.  I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case,

please include a link to the page you are referencing.
There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page.
