I have no explanation for Martha being listed as head-of-household or John being listed as her brother, beyond the fact that the enumerator didn't know what he was doing.  Listed next to Jeems/James J. SMITH, who was listed next to him and his parents in the 1870 census.  Listed seven households from Martha's brother, William H. STROUP.
