MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Fred Valentine Edwards, 100, of 1167 N. Franklin Road, the husband of Ola Forrest Edwards, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center.  Mr. Edwards was born Aug. 25, 1902, in Carroll County, Va., the son of the late Jasper and Lucy Easter Edwards.  He retired from Mount Airy Chair Co. and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Ola Forrest Edwards of the home; two sons and four daughters-in-law, Johnny and Betty Edwards, Ruth N. Edwards and Polly H.E. Payne, all of Mount Airy and Burley and Dawn Edwards of Arlington, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his first wife, Gypsy Hawks Edwards, and two sons, Raymond F. Edwards and Arvin E. Edwards.  The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Honeycutt and the Rev. Steve Parks.  Burial will be at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, 922 Banner St., Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Wesley Surratt, 1664 Greenhill Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

I suspect his birthyear may have been bumped back a year so it could be said he lived to be 100.  Clearly, it was believed that Fred was the son of Jasper & Lucy.
