Joseph DURFEE
Abigail BUCK
Husband:  Joseph DURFEE / DURPHEY
Birth:  ca. 1735, Windham Co., CT
Baptism:  8 Aug 1742, Newent Congregational Church, Lisbon, New London Co., CT
Death:  4 Jun 1794, Cornwall, Addison Co., VT
Father:  John DURFEE
Mother:  Mercy FOSTER

Many secondary sources show our subject's deathplace as "Shelbourne, Nebraska," (some spell it Shelbourae), which is utterly absurd considering the year.  The Louisiana Purchase had yet to take place, and Nebraska didn't even become a territory until 1854, not to mention that there's no such place as Shelbourne (or Shelbourn or Shelbourae) in the United States.  There is a Shelburne in Chittenden Co., VT, which is at least a credible possibility, but given that he was living in Cornwall, Addison Co., VT, in the 1790 census, those who say he died in Cornwall are almost certainly correct.  Or, to put it another way, given that he was living in Cornwall in 1790 and died in 1794, what evidence is there that he did not die in Cornwall?
