Nelson DARNELL
Ms. __?__ |
Husband: Nelson DARNELL
Birth: 20 Feb 1834, TN Death: 8 Aug 1900, Carthage, Jasper Co., MO Occupation: farmer He is said to be John Nelson DARNELL, but I have found him only as Nelson. |
Marriage: |
Some say his wife was Mary ROGERS, some say she was Nancy ROGERS.
The marriage records do not exactly clarify the situation (see Source 1
below), assuming either of the Grainger Co., TN, marriage records even
refers to our subject. Without the 1860 census record, I'm not prepared
to commit to the identity of his wife. If she is Nancy ROGERS, these
are the vitals given for her by a secondary source:
Wife: Nancy ROGERS
If Nancy was Nelson's wife, it's highly unlikely she died in Carthage, given that he is in the 1870 census of Marion Co., MO, which is on the opposite side of the state. |
Children — born in MO, possibly in Fabius Twp., Marion Co., MO: |
1. Mary Elizabeth DARNELL, b. 23 May 1856
2. James DARNELL, b. 6 Aug 1859; d. 14 Oct 1863 3. Minerva Cardine DARNELL, b. 11 Sep 1859; d. 17 Nov 1859 4. William DARNELL, b. 8 Dec 1862; d. 1876 5. Melissa Esther DARNELL, b. 12 Aug 1864 6. Ellis DARNELL [male], b. 1865/6 7. John DARNELL, b. 20 Mar 1868; d. 7 Aug 1909 For an obvious reason, the birth years of James and Minerva can't both
be correct.
|
One secondary source shows "Ellis" as a female:
6. Laura Alice DARNELL, b. 8 Jul 1865; d. 29 Apr 1929, Bakersfield, Kern Co., CA; m. John Johnson KENNEDY (1862-1934) That source shows her born 8 Jul 1865 in TN, but the 1900 census (of Allen Co., KS) shows her born July 1867 in MO. It seems improbable that the census enumerator erred twice, in both the 1870 and 1880 censuses, but I suppose it's possible. |
