This has to be our subject.  He's listed two lines below his father, Basil DARBY (æ 50-60, plus family and six slaves), had to have been in Mississippi in 1840, would have been in his 20's, and should have two young sons and Basil is not known to have had a son, Joseph.  It all fits and I don't find him elsewhere.
