I wish I could copy this entry verbatim because so much of it is of interest to our BROWN genealogy, but due to copyright concerns, all I can do is extract the pertinent facts, paraphrase, and quote minimally.  The following is under the heading, "Cutting, of Newbury" beginning on p. 357 and extending to p. 363.
p. 357 Author states that CUTTING is a rare surname found almost exclusively in co. Suffolk, especially in Ipswich.  [But see Richard CUTTING of Great Bromley, Essex.]

John CUTTING was born in England in 1592/3 (æ 63 in Apr 1656); m. ca. 1615 in England, Mary __?__‡; d. 20 Nov 1656 in Newbury.  Mary m2. bef. May 1662, John MILLER.  Mary d. 6 Mar 1663/4 in Newbury.

Capt. John CUTTING was a mariner, and the author discusses his ships and travels, including crossings with other CUTTINGs.  He brought his wife and children over, settling in Watertown by 1636.  The author then discusses his land holdings.

‡There is an interesting footnote that has me rather frustrated because the citation is in error, so I can't find the original.  The item is cited as "Genealogical Genealogical Gleanings in England, Henry F. Waters, Boston, 1901, p. 584."  For years, Henry F. Waters wrote a column of this title for quarterly issues of the New England Historic and Genealogical Register (Boston, MA).  I checked the register for 1901, and there's no such page or article.  I searched the Register both online at the NEHGS web site and on a set of the Register on CD.  I cannot turn up this article.  If anyone has ever found the original, please share the correct citation.  In any case, this is the footnote:

One American genealogist thinks that Mary was that Mary Cutting named as a sister in the will of

On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case,

please include a link to the page you are referencing.
There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page.
