Our subjects are said to have a son, John W. CUPP, b. 1840, who married Christine RINGER.  While a son that age does appear with our subjects in the 1840 census, no such son appears with our subjects in the 1850 census (or 1860 census), so I don't see how he can be their son.

Leonard is, of course, John's father.  They are living five doors down from the Harrison HAGEN family, with whom is living a Jane CUPP (æ 20, b. VA, unmarried servant).  She doesn't appear to be John & Mary's daughter, but she is undoubtedly kin of some sort.
