Philip Menefee CORBIN
Lucy Ann RACER
Husband:  Philip Menefee CORBIN
Birth:  ca. 1815/16, Rappahannock Co., VA
Death:  aft. 1860 census
Occupation:  farmer
Father:  Joseph William CORBIN
Mother:  Hannah MENEFEE

The average male in the 19th Century married first at the age of 23, so I'm going with that estimate.

Marriage:  12 Mar 1839, Rappahannock Co., VA
Wife:  Lucy Ann RACER
Birth:  Feb 1821, Culpeper Co., VA
Death:  aft. 1900 Census, Barnesville, Belmont Co., OH
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  John RACER (c1792-1870s)
Mother:  Martha "Patsy" SIMS (c1792-1861)

Lucy's age varies wildly in the census, but in the 19th Century, the average woman first married at the age of 19, so her age in the 1900 census may be the correct one.

Children — born in Rappahannock Co., VA:
1.  John S. CORBIN, b. 1839/40
2.  George T. and/or Joseph? CORBIN, b. 1841/2
3.  James William CORBIN, b. 1843/4
4.  Martha M. CORBIN, b. ca. 1845
5.  Richard M. CORBIN, b. 1846/7 - 48/9
6.  Robert CORBIN, b. 1850
7.  Montgomery CORBIN, b. 1851/2
8.  Philip Uriah CORBIN, b. Jan 1857

Listed next to George RACER (æ 26, b. Va), who is living alone, and three households before James RACER (æ 26, b. Va), who is boarding with another family.  These are very likely Lucy's brothers.

4.  1860 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #86 of 138):  Washington P.O., Rappahannock Co., VA, Roll M653_1374, p. 206, PN 86, 665/625, enumerated 25 Jul 1860, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

I can only assume Philip being out of order is enumerator error.  Is Joseph actually George?  Or vice-versa?  Listed next to James RACER (æ 35, b. VA), who is a farm hand living with an elderly farmer.

5a.  1870 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  I cannot find Philip and his family in this census, nor can I find Richard.  I notice others haven't found them, either.  I did find son, James William, in Shenandoah Co., VA (q.v.), and I found James A. RACER (æ 48, b. VA; farm laborer) living in Hampton, Rappahannoc Co., VA (p. 98B), with a farm family.

5b.  1870 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  Mallory CORBIN (æ 58, b. VA; farm laborer) is living in Piedmont Twp., Rappahannock Co., VA (p. 144B), with the family of Reuben SIMMS (æ 73, b. VA; farmer).  Kenneth Corbin, in his Leaves of the Corbin Tree (see below), considers this Mallory CORBIN to be our subject, but he is incorrect for reasons given below.

.  Kenneth Corbin.  2009.  The Leaves of the Corbin Tree.  Vol. 1 of 2.  Self-published, Louisville, KY:
The author did not routinely put all surnames in all-caps, so I have converted them to make for easier scanning for names.
p. 71 333.  Philip Malory8 CORBIN (Joseph7, John6, John5...) was born circa 1815 at VA.  He married Lucy Ann RACER...

He appeared on the census 1840 at Rappahannock Co., VA... [we agree up through 1850, though he misses 1860] He appeared on the census 3 Jul 1870 at Rappahannock Co., VA...

p. 72 The seven known children of Philip Malory8 CORBIN and Lucy Ann RACER were as follows:
1009.   i.   John L.9 CORBIN was born circa 1840 at VA...
1010.   ii.   George T. CORBIN was born circa 1843 at VA...
+ 1011.   iii.   James W. CORBIN was born circa 1844 at VA...
1012.   iv.   Martha CORBIN was born circa 1846 at VA...
+ 1013.   v.   Richard M. CORBIN was born circa 1849 at Culpeper Co., VA...
1014.   vi.   Uriah CORBIN was born circa 1858 at VA.
1015.   vii.   Margaret CORBIN was born in Nov 1859 at Montgomery Co., KY
...
Is the Mallory CORBIN in the 1870 census really our subject?  What is the basis for making the connection?  Also, what is the basis for the child, Margaret?  Where is the evidence they were ever in Kentucky?  Where is Margaret in the 1860 census, which shows the family still in Rappahannock Co., VA, with no daughter, Margaret?  Also, because the author has missed the 1860 census, he has overlooked sons Robert and Montgomery.
