Nicholas CORBIN
Eliza CASEY
Many questions are raised by this page for Nicholas.  We know from court documents that Nicholas was in Bourbon Co., KY, by 1800, but how did he manage to elude the census up until 1850?!  The most straightforward answer is that he never married.  Single men were not enumerated as head-of-household, unless they happened to be living alone.  The next questions surround his 1850 census record, when he finally does appear.  My take is that he was not married to Eliza, yet had at least two children with her (viz., Abraham and Rachel), possibly more.  The fact that they and their mother revert to surname CASEY in the 1860 census supports that Eliza was not married to him, as does the marriage of Eliza's apparent daughter, Lucy Jane, under surname CASEY, not CORBIN, in 1855, which also suggests Nicholas had passed away by 1855.  Obviously, it would be desirable to find more documentation here.  Surely there are some court records regarding the dispensation of his estate.

Children(?):
Just how many of these children were fathered by Nicholas, if any, is uncertain.  The most likely candidates are obviously Rachel and Abraham, for Nicholas's parents, and possibly Ellen (Eleanor) for his sister.  Minor children lakcing a legal father were required to have a male guardian, so surely there are some court records regarding them.

If Lucy was in her 40s in the 1840 census, so she is probably in her 50s here, which means she actually is old enough to be Eliza's mother.

Eliza is fibbing about her age.  Is Lucy J. (CASEY) CUMMINS actually "Lucy Jane," Eliza's daughter?  I susupect so.
