11.  Anon.  1886.  History of Posey County, Indiana.  Goodspeed Publ. Co., Chicago (online at archive.org, etc.):
A biographical sketch of our subject's son, John CORBIN, which appears on pp. 548-549.  Here, I will just pick out the genealogically useful information about our subject, his father.

John CORBIN was born 20 Mar 1840, "youngest son in a family of six children born to John and Margaret (Gibson) Corbin, the former born in Pennsylvania in 1805, and the latter in the same State in 1813.  In 1832 the family settled at Farmersville, Posey Co., Ind., but twelve years later moved to New Harmony, from whence the father removed to California in 1850, where he died in 1867.  The mother died in Posey County in 1852."

The remainder of the entry is about the son; if I ever create a family group sheet for him, I'll transcribe the entire sketch.

Son David was born in PA in 1834/5, so the migration date of 1832 is too early (see next source).  Others show Margaret deceased in 1843, which makes more sense considering John re-married in 1844.  We also don't find Margaret in the 1850 Census.

.  John C. Leffel, ed.  1913.  History of Posey County, Indiana.  Standard Publ. Co., Chicago (online at archive.org, Google Books, etc.):
One of the biographical sketches in the book, beginning on p. 336, is of our subject's son, Capt. John CORBIN.  Most of the piece is the usually vanity book puffery, and it includes the bogus assertion that these CORBINs descends from the Hall End CORBINs.  If I ever create a family group sheet for the son, I will transcribe the entire sketch, but I'm here just picking out the genealogically useful facts, in telegraphic fashion:

Capt. John's mother was Margaret GIBSON.  He was born 20 Mar 1840, Farmersville, Posey Co., IN, and died there 13 Feb 1911.  His parents came to Posey Co., in 1836 and settled in New Harmony.  In 1838 his parents moved to Yankee Settlement [now Farmersville], but returned in 1844 to New Harmony.

"In 1854 he and a brother and sister drove overland to California, where their father had preceded them four years.  They remained in the Sacramento Valley until 1858, when he returned to Posey county..."

He served notably in the Civil War and afterwards founded the successful Corbin Milling Company.  He married 13 Jan 1869 to Mary TRUSCOTT, a native of Cornwall, England.  They had five children.

Public Member Trees (online at Ancestry.com):  a file there calls our subject's wife, "Clarissa Caroline DUNHAM."
