Erby Gaylord CORBIN
Sarah V. HALL
Mary Elizabeth RIDLEY
Note:  A descendant of our subject, through his son, William McKinley CORBIN, is participating in the CORBIN Y-DNA Surname Project.  His test results indicate that he is not genetically related to other descendants of Peter CORBIN of Pickens Co., SC, which means his patrilineal line must contain an NPE, a "non-paternal event" (i.e., a hidden adoption or illicit paternity).  A descendant of Erby's brother, Joseph Grant CORBIN, has been tested, and he does match the other descendants of Peter CORBIN, so the NPE had to have occurred with our subject or his son, William McKinley.  (Technically, it could have occurred in William McKinley's son or grandson, the test subject, but for obvious reasons the current assumption is that it occurred further up the line.)  To help resolve the issue of where this NPE occurred, we are urging anyone descended from our subject on a patrilineal line to join the project and be tested, not just to help us determine the location of the NPE, but to know whether you, yourself, have the NPE.  Having an NPE is not hopeless in terms of determining one's ancestry.  I give some examples of NPEs and their resolution on this web page

If Elbert was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, it suggests that, in 1899, our subjects were in McIntosh County.

Our subject is at the bottom of the page, which is barely readable.  Everet's age is indexed as 3/12, and it does appear to be fractional.  (This page is missing altogether at Genealogy.com, although it is indexed correctly there.)  The above extraction is my best effort, but it may not be entirely accurate.  I haven't found a good PLSS map of the region, but the hits from a cursory Google search indicate T9N.R16E is in McIntosh County.
