Children second marriage...

MERCY,7 b. 13 January 1803, at Pittsford; m. (1) in Licking County, Ohio 1 Apr 1821, Silas Mott, who d. 17 November 1828; (2) at Homer, Ohio, as his second wife, 7 February 1830, Alpheus Baker, b. at Cornwall, Vermont, 14 April 1795. (Marriage Records of Licking County, Ohio.  New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, 13: 195.) He d. at Avilla, Indiana, 11 Jan 1888, aged 93; she d. there 22 March 1895, aged 92.

p. 215      Mr. and Mrs. Baker removed to Indiana in August 1836, and settled in a log cabin at Lisbon, but a year of two later made their permanent home a short distance from their first location on what was for years known as the Baker farm, then an unbroken forest.  When they arrived in Indiana there were ten children in their family—four of Mr. Baker's by a previous marriage, three by her first marriage, and three by their union; four were born later.  They had little or no means, and experienced the privations and hardships incident to a new and heavily timbered country; but they prospered, reared their large family of children, and lived to see them fill honorable and useful places in life.  Both were over ninety years of age when they died.
Mrs. Baker was a well-informed, healthy woman, well fitted for a pioneer life, which she always appeared to enjoy, and was an exemplary Christian.  She was never happier than when ministering to the comfort of her family and friends.
The war record of the family was unusual.  Her husband was a soldier in the War of 1812, and no less than six of her sons and two sons-in-law served in the Civil War—several of them being wounded and one killed.  (Data from Arthur H. Hopkins.)
