Bethlehem Township, PA. — James S. Averill, 70, of Rye Court in Bethlehem Township, Pa., formerly of Plattsburgh, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in his home.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1930, in Plattsburgh, the son of Stanley E. Averill and Gladys (Stroebe) Yurchuck.

He served in the U.S. Navy during peacetime and earned his degree in engineering from International Correspondence School.

He was employed as an engineer for Harris Graphics of Florida, working in Easton, Pa., Champlain and Dayton, Ohio, for 45 years until retiring.

He was a former vice-president of Research and Engineering in Philadelphia, Pa., a member of the Champlain Lodge F&AM and was active in the Boy Scouts in both Easton, Pa., and Plattsburgh.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan (Russo) Averill; his two daughters, Debi L. Clark of Orlando, Fla., and Christine C. Sewall of Easton, Pa.; and his four grandchildren.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorials in his name may be made to the charity of one's choice.

The Ashton Funeral Home in Easton, Pa., is in charge of arrangements.
