James Phillip ALTMAN
Emma Dora __?__
Husband:  James Phillip ALTMAN
Birth:  Nov 1866 or 9 Nov 1865, Beaufort Dist. [now Hampton Co.], SC
Death:  31 Mar 1924, Hampton Co., SC
Disposition:  buried Hopewell Cemetery
Occupation:  farmer
Father said to be:  J. Nelson ALTMAN
Mother said to be:  Elizabeth PULASKI

The reason for my hesitancy to accept these parents for James is the inconsistencies in the census records.  James is with Nelson & Elizabeth in the 1880 census, but not the 1870 census; and while Elizabeth is called his "mother" in the 1900 census, in the very same census James's wife is called his "sister," so we can't give much credibility to that record.  I think we need stronger proof that James is the son of Nelson and not his nephew.

Marriage:  1896 or 1898
Wife:  Emma Dora __?__
Birth:  Oct 1872, SC
Occupation:  homemaker, farm laborer
Parents:  born in SC
Children — born in Goethe Twp., Hampton Co., SC:
1.  Salmon ALTMAN, b. 1896/7
2.  (Child) ALTMAN, b. aft. 1900; d. bef. 1910
3.  Sarah "Sallie" ALTMAN, b. 1904/5
Keywords for search engines:  genealogy; USA, US, United States, South Carolina

The enumerator totally bollixed the record of this family.  Elizabeth may be James's mother or his aunt (or be adopted), but Emma is his wife, not his sister (see 1910 census); and Henry has to be Emma's brother, not James's.  Lastly, where is son, Salmon?  Listed next to James's brother, Eddie ALTMAN.
