Comparison of BigY Tested STRAUBs
Descended from Martin STRAUB of Württemburg
Two members of the STRAUB Y-DNA Surname Project — both genetically matching patrilineal line descendants of Martin STRAUB (1616-1676) of Wuerttemberg — have been BigY tested, namely:
     •  one a descendant of Martin's grandson, Antonius STRAUB (1710-1777), who remained in Wuerttemberg
     •  the other a descendant of Martin's grandson, Johann Pieter STRAUB (1695->1760), who emigrated to Philadelphia, PA, in 1733

Both have submitted their BigY BAM files to YFull.com for analysis to find out if the detailed SNP results and/or the added STR results could aid in identifying lines of descent from their progenitor.  Their results are compared in the tables below.  And, yes, they would be useful in that regard.

As of 30 Jan 2016, their terminal SNP on the YFull Experimental I1 Haplotree is I-Y19048, a subclade including the L592 SNP found for this family on the Walk-through-the-Y test.
As it happens, the FTDNA BigY test actually includes more than SNPs; it returns results for up to 499 STR markers, including the 111 standard markers.  FTDNA does not include these STR results along with the BigY SNP Results, but for a fee, YFull extracts and displays them to individuals.  These STR results are not put on public display by YFull or FTDNA, but they can be viewed and downloaded by the individual.

Bear in mind that one reason FTDNA does not display these markers is that these do not undergo FTDNA's usual quality control process.  There may be errors in these readings.

Not every STR marker gets a "good read," so each person will have somewhat fewer than 499 STR marker results, and because we are testing near relatives, nearly all of our STR values will be the same, just as they were with the standard 111 markers.  It is hoped that, in looking at these added markers, we might find enough variation to separate lines in the family.

UPDATE (30 Jan 2016):  Yes, indeed, these deep SNPs and the additional STRs will be useful in identifying branches of the family!  I urge every male member of the family to please consider taking the BigY test.
