Benjamin ELY
Maria STAATS
Husband:  Benjamin ELY
Birth:  7 Dec 1810, Washington Co., PA
Death:  11 Oct 1882, Knox Co., OH
Father:  Peter ELY
Mother:  Mary Ann "Polly" HORN

Mother:  Maria __?__

Maria was relatively younger on her tombstone than in the 1850 census, so she appears to have shaved a year or two off her age in her later years — either that or the census is wrong.

These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
2 males 4 or under 1835-1840 = George (b. 1840)
= Homer (b. 1839)
1 male 5-9 1830-1835 = Lewis (b. 1837)
1 male 30-39 1800-1810 = Peter (b. 1810)
1 female 20-29 1810-1820 = Maria (b. 1813/4/5)
Lewis is in the wrong age class.  Either that, or the son born 1830-35 is from a previous marriage of Peter, the two boys in the 1835-40 age class are Lewis and Homer, and the census was taken before George was born.  Possible.
