| I have extracted the first 22 generations of the pedigree from William
Bowker Preston's book on the Preston genealogy (see Sources below) and
recreated it below as an outline descendancy chart. As an aid to
making sense of Preston's rather convoluted way of presenting the genealogy,
I have added "Jr.," "Sr.," or Roman numerals to distinguish individuals;
they were not so designated in the original. I may have made
errors interpreting Preston; I would appreciate being notified of any such
errors.
My main purpose in presenting this chart is to draw attention to an error with regard to the identity of Roger PRESTON of Up-Otterly (see Footnotes and names highlighted in red). |

1. William Bowker Preston did not distinguish which of John PRESTON "V's" four children — two of whom were named "Thomas" — were by which of his two wives. Assuming the children were listed in the book in birth order and assuming that each of the wives named their first son Thomas, my placement of them above may be correct. Then again, it may not. 2. William Bowker Preston appears to have equated his Roger PRESTON, Jr., "of Up-Otterly," with the New England immigrant, "Roger PRESTON of Ipswich," whose wife was named Martha. I believe this to be an error. Please see my discussion of "The Identity of Roger PRESTON of Ipswich." |
