Descendants of Sigefred the Dane [Siegfrede le Danois] |
Source: Helen M. Blount Prescott. 1902. Blount and Blunt. Press of W.F. Roberts, Washington, DC. This publication is not a book, but a pedigree chart (see this page for links to all sections of the chart). Below, I have created an outline descendant chart, based on Prescott's pedigree chart, of the line from Sigefred the Dane. |
1 Sigefred the Dane ( -965), 1st Count of Guisnes, AD 9351.
..+Elstrude of Flanders2. ..2 Ardolph, 2nd Count of Guisnes. ....+Matildis, daughter of Arnold, Count of Boulogne. ....3 Rodolph, 3rd Count of Guisnes. ......+Rosella de St. Pol, daughter of Hugh II, Count of St. Pol. ......4 Eustace LE BLOUNT, 4th Count of Guisnes in 1052. ......4 Robert LE BLOUNT, 1st Baron of Ixworth3. ......4 William LE BLOUNT, "Dux Navium Militarium" to William the ConquerorA. ......4 "another brother" LE BLOUNT, who returned to France. |
1grandson of Harold V,
14th King of Denmark from Gorman I, AD 699.
2daughter of Arnold the Great, Count of Flanders, and sister of Baldwin III, whose great-great-granddaughter, Matilda, married William the Conqueror. 3time of William the Conqueror. |
Corrections:
All other sources I've seen bestow this naval honor on William's brother, Robert, who is often styled "Sir Robert 'the Admiral' le Blount." See Burke's entry for these BLOUNTs posted to the BLOUNT Surname Board (online at Ancestry.com) naming Robert as "Dux Navium Militarium." The implication of this entry is that William (or Robert) LE BLOUNT must have accompanied William the Conqueror in 1066, but there is no proof that any BLOUNT accompanied him.
