Pedigree of FAWKNOR / FAWCONER of Kingscleare, Hampshire, England, 1634 |
Sources:
1. Henry F. Waters. 1885. "Genealogical Gleanings in England." New England Historical and Genealogical Record 39(Jan): 61-73. Pedigree chart on p. 71. 2. A.D. Mills. 1991. A Dictionary of English Place Names. Oxford Univ. Press, Oxford and New York. The pedigree below is constructed from Water's Visitation of Hampshire, 1634, as cited by Waters (1885). The individuals shown in white are as given in the Visitation. The individuals in blue are from the will of Francis FAWCONER, which are given in their entirety in another pedigree chart (i.e., they were not on the pedigree chart in the Visitation cited by Waters). As Thomas FAWKNOR was the only individual supplied with a date and as that date is 1634, I take it the pedigree was compiled in 1634 and Thomas was the informant. Thomas has had only two children and his brother John has apparently yet to marry, which suggests the brothers are still young men. If so, this would make them approximate contemporaries with the testator, Francis FAWCONER, and his brother, Edmund FAWCONER in New England. Therefore, one would expect to find them in the same generation (level) in the above chart and, indeed, that is where they can most logically be placed on other grounds, as well. The pedigree below and the one based on the will show a striking similarity, especially in the use of the given names Richard, Francis, and John. It is a comfortable fit to make the Richard FAWKNOR above the same man as the uncle in Francis FAWCONER's will, which means either Francis FAWKNOR or John FAWKNOR below is the father of the Edmund FAWCONER in New England and of Francis FAWCONER, the testator, and their other siblings. There is no proof, as yet, of this scenario. Please consider it a working hypothesis. |
