EXPLANATION: w. is an Abbreviation; C.H. for child or children; D, for deceased.  Thus, "Henry--w. (1) Mary Lee, (2) Susan Dix; D; Taylor Co." means that Mary Lee was the first and Susan the second wife of a certain Henry; and that the said Henry went to Taylor county and is not now living.

Peter CUPP was of German birth and came from Frederick county Md., to the Craborchard conisderally (sic) prior to 1800.  If the tradition is correct that he was unmarried when he arrived, he must have been one of our very earliest pioneers.  But the tradition may refer to his oldest son Leonard, who was born in 1773, and died in 1871.  Peter died about 1835, aged at least 80 years.

Leonard, a captain in the war of 1812 lived near Locust Grove, Wiliam near Cranesville, and John on the Cunningham place near Hudson.  All three were residents of Pleasant.  The other borthers left the county, Christian going to Ohio and Jacob S. to Pennsylvania.  We have no records that they married in Preston.
