Know all men by these presents that I Nathaniel Burrus of Todd County and State of Kentucky for and in consideration of divers good causes and reasons to me hereunto moving have this day and by these presents emancipated manumitted and forever set free and at liberty my mulatto man slave named Billy (whom I purchased of R G Ray of Illinois) aged twenty five years and now lives in Clarksville Tennessee with Mr Dance who keeps a house of entertainment in said Town  Said Billy is honest and industrious and well behaved is about six feet high with his shoes on and is a shade lighter than a dark mulatto  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 9th Day of July 1838

I Willis L Reeves Clerk of the County Court for the County aforesaid do certify that Nathaniel Burrus the grantor in the foregoing deed from him purporting to emanicipate his mulatto man slave named Billy at a County Court began and held for the Todd County at the Courthouse in Elkton on Monday the 9th day of July in the year 1838 personally appeared in open Court and acknowledged said deed in open Court to be his act and deed and the same is ordered to be recorded  Whereupon I have truly recorded Said deed together with the Certificate in my office
