*Anna CLARK is not, as often alleged, sister of explorer William CLARK and Gen. George Rogers CLARK (sons of John CLARK & Ann ROGERS); and her middle name is not "Rogers" (Roberts, 1995: 129).  The source of these myths appears to be Frederick Clifton Pierce (1901: 1104-1107).  Also, Anna is said, by Pierce (1901: 1107), to have a son, George Rogers FIELD, but no such son is mentioned in Col. John FIELD's will, something even Pierce acknowledges.  It appears George Rogers FIELD may have been manufactured to support the myth of Anna's parentage.

Sources include:
1.  Gary Boyd Roberts.  1995.  Ancestors of American Presidents.  New England Historic Genealogy Society, Boston, MA.  Roberts is one of the foremost genealogists of our time; he considers the indentity of the parents and wife of Robert FIELD unproven.
2.  Frederick Clifton Pierce.  1901.  Field Genealogy.  Hammond Press, Chicago (online at Genealogy.com).  Given the author's demonstrated unreliabilty, nothing in this work should be accepted without independent primary documentation.
