Sherod WILLIS
Mary Ann HUNTER |
Husband: Sherod / Sharod WILLIS — not Sherwood
Birth: ca. 1754, Mecklenburg Co., VA Death: Mar-Jun 1806, Jessamine Co., KY Will Signed: 3 Mar 1806, Jessamine Co., KY; Will Proved: Jun 1806, Jessamine Co., KY Y-DNA Haplogroup: R1b-L21 Father: Mr. WILLIS Our subject's given name is almost certainly Sherod, not Sherwood. For one thing, if it were Sherwood, the spelling in his records would be more consistently Sherwood — as a name any school child who's read the tale of Robin Hood can spell. Of the seven primary documents I have (see Sources below), he is Sherod four times, Sharod twice, and Sherwood only once. Most importantly, he is Sherod in his own will. SHEROD/SHERROD is a bone fide surname, which obviously must figure somewhere in Sherod's ancestry. Of the two spellings, SHERROD is more common than SHEROD, but our subject's name appears consistently with a single "r." |

Everything I have is online at this web site. I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case, There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page. |
