Comments:
I have a great deal of difficulty believing that the Spencer THOMPSON who married Elizabeth E. WEST is the same Spencer THOMPSON as in the 1850 Census. He would only have been 16 or 17 years old when he married a woman 33 or 34 years old. Also, for this Spencer to be the son of John and Elizabeth (SPENCER) THOMPSON, Elizabeth would have birthed him when she was 54 years old! I don't buy it. How 'bout this scenario: The Spencer in the 1850 Census is Spencer Junior. His father, Spencer Senior, is the Spencer who married Elizabeth E. WEST as a second marriage in 1845, then he died before 1850. This scenario would also allow Spencer Senior to be old enough for Elizabeth (SPENCER) THOMPSON to be his mother. Also part of this scenario, Spencer, Sr., must have left Christian Co. to live in Caldwell Co., where he met and married Elizabeth WEST. After he died, some time between 1846 and 1850, Elizabeth (WEST) THOMPSON, a widow with a small child, moved to Christian Co. to live with her step-son. However, I don't like explanations this complicated… |
