These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 16-18 1801-1804 = Thomas (b. 1803/4)
1 male 19-25* 1794-1801 = John III (b. 1798)
1 male 45 or over in or bef. 1775 = John
1 female 10-15 1804-1810 = Margaret (b. 1808)
1 female 45 or over in or bef. 1775 = Winifred
*In the 1820 Census, the third column is age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25; therefore, any individual in column three is duplicated in column four.  By subtracting the number in column three from the number in column four, you can create an age class "19-25."

6a.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1830 (Broderbund CD-315):
Thompson, John IL Greene Co. p. 09
Thompson, John IL Greene Co. p. 10
The John Thompson on p. 9 is John Thompson III, the husband of Docia Bandy and son of John II and Winifred.  The John Thompson on p. 10 is the son of William & Temperance (Brickey) Thompson, husband of Mary __?__.  These are the only two John Thompsons in the 1830 Census of Greene Co., IL.  The John & Winifred (Brickey) Thompson who are the subjects of this family group sheet are now in their 60s; they must be living with one of their children (see next source).

Page # Line # Last Name First Name Data

These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 20-29 1800-1810 = Thomas (b. 1804/5)
1 male 60-69 1760-1770 = John
2 females 4 or under 1825-1830 = "Mieley" (b. 1828/9)
= Malinda (b. 1827/8)
1 female 20-29 1800-1810 = "Betsy" (b. 1807/8)
1 female 60-69 1760-1770 = Winifred
This scenario is hypothetical, but likely.  I have no proof that Thomas and Betsy are the younger couple and that the elder couple is John and Winifred (Brickey) Thompson.  But John is said to have died in 1843, so he must be accounted for in 1830 and 1840.  As the only other two John Thompsons in Greene Co. in 1830 are too young to be him (and have already been accounted for), John & Winifred must be living with one of their children, who must be listed as head-of-household.  This is the only elder Thompson couple in Greene Co., other than William & Temperance (Brickey) Thompson, who have also been accounted for.  This must be John & Winifred, and this goes a long way towards proving that Thomas Thompson, son of John & Winifred, is the one who married Betsy Asher in 1826, not the one who married Eveline Bonig in 1826, because in 1830, Thomas & Betsy have two daughters under five years of age, but Thomas & Eveline have one daughter and one son under five years of age.  John & Winifred are living with the Thomas who has two daughters.

7. 1840 Greene Co., IL, Federal Census transcribed by John C. Jacoby (microfilm roll #M104-60; online at the Greene County ILGenWeb site and the USGenWeb Census Project site):  I cannot find a Thompson couple in their 70s, except for William & Temperance (Brickey) Thompson.  John and Winifred must be living with some other family, possibly one of their married daughters, but if so, they are not in Wilmington Precinct with the rest of the family because there simply is no such elderly couple (other than William and Temperance) in the Precinct.
