John THOMPSON
Mary PIKE
NOTICE:  A patrilineal descendant of our subject is participating in the THOMPSON Y-DNA Surname Project.  Anyone who suspects he descends from our subject on a direct male line can support that connection with a DNA test.
Husband:  John THOMPSON
Birth:  12 Apr 1769, Orange [now Alamance] Co., NC
Death:  28 May 1847, Orange [now Alamance] Co., NC
Y-DNA Haplogroup:  I1

Secondary sources have mistakenly given our subject these parents:
Father:  James5 THOMPSON (1743-1794) of New Castle Co., DE — James4, James3, John2, Thomas1 of Yorkshire, England
Mother:  Martha CHAMBERS
The reasons this connection is a mistake are given in this message on the THOMPSON-DNA mailing list, but we can rest with just the fact that Thomas's descendants are Haplogroup R1b1 (see T-47).  People in different haplogroups cannot have had a common ancestor for thousands of years.
