James THOMPSON
Elizabeth WEST
Husband:  James THOMPSON
Birth:  1797/8 or 1800/01, most likely 1801, KY
Death:  6 July 1864
Disposition:  Johnson Mill Road Cemetery, Hopkinsville, Christian Co., KY

Given James's age, we would expect him to have had one or more previous marriages; however, he brings no previous children to his marriage with Elizabeth.

Marriage:  12 Jun 1842, Christian Co., KY
Wife:  Elizabeth WEST
Birth:  1814/5 or 1819/20, more likely 1814/5, KY
Death:  in or aft. 1860
Father possibly:  Charles H. WEST
Mother possibly:  Aquilla BUCKNER

If Charles is not Elizabeth's father, then he is almost certainly her uncle.

Children born in Christian Co., KY:
1.  Mary J. THOMPSON, b. 1843/4 or 1845/6
2.  James M.  THOMPSON, b. 1844/5 or 1846/7
3.  William F. THOMPSON, b. 1847

While there is only a rough correspondence of the ages between 1850 and 1860, there can be no doubt this is the same family.  They are living next door to Evan & Amanda (DAVIS) HOPSON, in one direction; and, in the other direction, living next door to C.H. WEST (æ 29, b. KY), who is next door to his brother, James H. WEST (æ 31, b. KY), who is next door to their father, Wm. E. WEST (æ 54, b. NC).  There is a high probability that William is Elizabeth's brother or, if not her brother, her first cousin.

4.  AIS (Accelerated Index System) 1870 Census Index (online at Ancestry.com):  James was not found, as expected, but neither was Elizabeth.  Checking the images online at Ancestry.com, the James B. THOMPSON in Christian Co., KY, is age 30, b. VA.

5.  Southern Christian County, KY, Cemetery Records. LDS Microfiche #6075676.  In the Johnson Mill Road Cemetery near Hopkinsville, Christian Co., KY:
p. 293 James Thompson b. 1802 d. 6 July 1864, age 62y
If someone dies in 1864 at age 62, they could have been born in either 1802 or 1801 depending on whether or not they had had their birthday yet or not.  This record probably applies to the above James Thompson.
