Comment:
A. We have a slight problem with son Henderson's age. Even if we grant that his father's marriage to Nancy Burnett was a "shotgun" wedding with Henderson born shortly thereafter (in 1801), Henderson would still have been only 14 or 15 years old when he married in 1816. It's not impossible for Henderson to have married so young, but it raises a red flag suggesting his father may have had an earlier wife. The fact that John was 26 or 27 years old when he married Nancy makes an earlier wife quite possible. On the other hand, the fact that Thomas Burnett gave surety suggests Nancy was his mother. |
