As many times as I've seen Stroup mis-read as Strong, this is the first time I've seen Strong mis-read as Stroup!  Unless, of course, there really was a George O. STROUP who patented the land in St. Croix County, then sold it and left the county before the 1860 census.  I wish the BLM database were still online because it included digital images of the original certificates, so I would be able to check the spelling on the certificate.

*The county is not given on the original certificate, which describes the location of the land solely in terms of Aliquot, Section, Township, and Range.  The county names must have been added to the database at some later time, probably when the certificate data were computerized.
The BLM online database is down (apparently long term), so I extracted the above data from the version of the database online at Genealogy.com and Ancestry.com.  Unfortunately, these latter versions of the database do not include the county name.  Hudson is in St. Croix County, but that doesn't necessarily mean the land was in St. Croix County…

2.  Messages on the Wisconsin Board (online at Ancestry.com):  my query there resulted in finding out that T30N.R18W is in Richmond Twp., St. Croix Co., WI.

3.  1860 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  George STRONG (æ 38; b. VT), "turveyor" with $10,000 real property and $100 personal property, is living in a boarding house in Hudson City, St. Croix Co., WI (p. 315).

4.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  George STRONG (æ 48, b. NY), surveyor, is living in a hotel in Hudson City, St. Croix Co., WI (p. 57A).

5.  1880 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  George B. STRONG (æ 60, VT/MA/CT), surveyor, is living in a hotel in Baldwin, St. Croix Co., WI (p. 272B).
