2.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1820 (Broderbund CD-314):  Joseph is still living at home, with his widowed mother.

3.  1830 Census Index and Digital Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #13 of 16; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
1830 Straub, Joseph Northumberland Co. Chilisquaque Twp. p. 151 Ln. 1 000 000 100 - 000 000 000
These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 40-50 1779-1790 = Joseph (b. 1793)
Is this really the same Joseph?  Hmmm.  I think it must be; he lived all his adult life in Chillisquaque, and there is no other Joseph.  So, granted the census-taker made a slight mistake in Joseph's age, let's say Elizabeth has died and he has not yet married Maria.  Elizabeth's children survived, so they must be staying with kin.  Still…

4.  1840 Census Index and Digital Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #12 of 16; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
1840 PA Northumberland Co. Chillisquaque Twp. p. 131B Ln. 5 Joseph Straub 102 000 100 - 100 001 010 _______
These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 4 or under 1835-1840 = Franklin (b. 1833/4)
2 males 10-14 1825-1830 = Jake (b. 1826)
= Son A
1 male 40-49 1790-1800 = Joseph (b. 1793)
1 female 4 or under 1835-1840 = Barbara (b. 1837/8)
1 female 30-39 1800-1810 = Maria (b. 1805/6)
1 female 50-59 1780-1790 = mother-in-law?
Joseph's mother is already deceased, so the elder woman is most likely Maria's mother.  Living next door to Philip HOUSEL.
