It's hard to explain the ordering of the children.  Catharine MUSSER & John MUSSER are the children of John & Susan (FIEDLER) MUSSER, who are living four doors down from our subjects.

For whatever reason, George & Lydia managed to get enumerated twice.  Perhaps they lived part of the year on their own and part of the year with their son, Edward STRAUB.  The question asked on the census form is:  "Who was living in this household on 1 Jun 1870?"  As the census was enumerated in August, there may have been some confusion about where George & Lydia were back on June 1st.

7a.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1880 (Broderbund CD-320):  the only STRAUB/STROUB/STROUPs in Centre Co. are our subjects' sons, Levi STRAUB and William STRAUB

7b.  LDS.  Family Search: Census Records: 1880 United States (online at FamilySearch.org):  can't find.

8.  Anon.  Friday, 19 Jul 1901.  "Obituary: William Straub." The Democratic Watchman, Bellefonte, Centre Co., PA (transcript courtesy of John S. Chillings, via Matthew D. Friend):
WILLIAM STRAUB... a son of George and Elizabeth Straub, and came to this County when only 17 years of age...  He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, Henry Straub, of Brookville; Levi, of Chicago; Edward, and Mrs. Isaac Miller of Bellefonte, and Mrs. Lydia Weaver, of Brush Valley...
William's mother was always Lydia in the censuses, and genealogies of the HEIM family call her only Lydia.  There are three possibilities for the discrepancy:  1) Elizabeth may have been her other given name, 2) the obituary is in error, or 3) George had a prior wife.  Brookville is in Jefferson Co., PA.

9.  Archives of the STRAUB-L mailing list (online at RootsWeb.com), including this post from Sue Davis:
From Charles A. Fisher's Family Trees by Charles A. Fisher on file at the Snyder Co. Historical society, we know that this Lydia was Lydia Heim b. 18 Jun 1802 d. 23 Feb 1874.  The same source gives the name of son, William b. 9 Apr 1829 d. 13 Jul 1901.  Also birth and death date for George of b. 26 Nov 1800 d. 5 Sep 1885.  William was the only child mentioned.

11.  Messages posted to the STRAUB Surname Board (online at Ancestry.com):  One message indicates the earliest STRAUB to Centre Co., PA, was Jacob STRAUB, by 1794 (he is not in the 1800 census of Centre Co., however).
