2.  1840 Census Index and Digital Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #11 of 14; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
1840 PA Union [now Snyder] Co. Perry Twp. p. 391 Strawser Simon Jr 100 010 - 100 010 0001000
These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 4 or under 1835-1840 = Son A
1 male 20-29 1810-1820 = Simon (b. 1814)
1 female 4 or under 1835-1840 = Bethany (b. 1838)
= Sarah (b. 1837)
1 female 20-29 1810-1820 = Maria (b. 1817)
1 persons engaged in manufacture and trade
There should be two daughters born 1835-40.  Did the enumerator simply overlook the second daughter or did he mistake the gender of the second child?  The list is alphabetical, so no neighborhood reconstruction is possible.

3.  Census Microfilm Records:  Pennsylvania, 1850 (Broderbund CD-305):  Perry Twp., Union [now Snyder] Co., PA, p. 109B, 146/146, enumerated 19 Nov 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Simon Strauser Jr 36 M Farmer   Penna
Maria Strauser 33 F     "
Sarah A Strauser 12 F     "
Betheny Strawser 10 F     "
Margaret Strauser  7 F     "
Diana Strawser 11 F     "
Barbara Strauser  8 F     "
Maria Strawser  5 F     "
Elithebeth Strawser  1 F     "
These four extra girls would appear to be Simon's nieces, living with them because their mother died.  We'll have to see which of Simon's sisters-in-law died within the last year or two.  Or did the census-taker simply get them out of order?  Listed seven households from Simon STRAUSER (Sr.).

4.  1860 Census Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #261 of 364):  Mount Pleasant Mills P.O., Perry Twp., Snyder Co., PA, p. 555A, PN 171, 1223/1273, enumerated 12 Jul 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Simon Strawser 47 m   Farmer 500 300 Penna
Maria     " 44 f         "
Martha    " 18 f         "
Barbara   " 14 f         "
Maria     " 14 f         " Idiot
Elizabeth " 11 f         "
David     "  8 m         "
George    "  1 m         "
It's difficult to reconcile the Barbara and Martha of 1860 with the Barbara and Diana of 1850.  Perhaps the discrepancies are census-taker error; perhaps Diana and Barbara died or married and two other girls (again, nieces?) have moved in with them.  It's hard to believe they have now taken in two nephews, yet if these are our subjects' children, then we have to explain a ten-year gap in births for Maria.  Doesn't fly.
