William SNELLING
Sarah SCOTT
Husband:  William SNELLING
Birth:  12 Sep 1764, Westmoreland Co., VA
Death:  4 Sep 1815, New Orleans, LA
Father:  Hugh SNELLING
Mother:  Margaret MARSHALL

Did William die serving in the War of 1812?

Marriage:  2 Feb 1788, Nelson Co., KY
Wife:  Sarah "Sally" SCOTT
Birth:  4 Jun 1766

Sarah is said by some secondary sources to have been born in KY, but that cannot be true.  Daniel BOONE did not make his first foray into Kentucky until 1767, and even he did not move his family to Kentucky until 1775.  Daniel's wife, Rebecca (BRYAN) BOONE, was the first European woman to settle in the region that later became the State of Kentucky (in 1792).  Having resided in Kentucky before statehood, Sarah and William (SCOTT) SNELLING definitely qualify as true Kentucky pioneers, but neither of them could possibly have been born there.

Children — born in Nelson Co., KY:
  1.  James SNELLING, b. 30 Mar 1789; d. 13 Aug 1815
  2.  Benjamin SNELLING, b. 30 Mar 1791
  3.  William SNELLING, b. 20 Nov 1792
  4.  (Son A) SNELLING, b. 1794-1800
  5.  Sarah Scott SNELLING, b. 13 Dec 1794
  6.  Vincent L. SNELLING, b. 15 Mar 1797
  7.  Margaret Marshall SNELLING, b. 21 Jun 1799; 2 Nov 1885, CA
  8.  Daniel SNELLING, b. 20 Jan 1802; d. 1870, Eugene, OR
  9.  Nancy SNELLING, b. 5 Jan 1804
10.  Theodora SNELLING, b. 27 Mar 1807; d. 1887, OR
11.  Jessamine SNELLING, b. 6 Sep 1809

which indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 9 or under 1800-1810 = Daniel (b. 1802)
2 males 10-15 1794-1800 = Vincent (b. 1797)

2 males 16-25 1784-1794 = William (b. 1792)
= Benjamin (b. 1791)
2 males 45 or over in or bef. 1765 = William (b. 1764)

3 females 9 or under 1800-1810 = Jessamine (b. 1809)
= Theodora (b. 1807)
= Nancy (b. 1804)
2 females 10-15 1794-1800 = Margaret (b. 1799)
= Sarah (b. 1794)
1 female 26-44 1765-1784 = Sarah (b. 1766)
7 slaves all ages in or bef. 1810 = names unknown
Either James (b. 1789) has left the nest, or we have a census-taker error (or we have an incorrect birthdate for one of the sons).  Hard to say who the older man is.  Sarah's father?  If he were William's father, you would expect the senior SNELLING to be head-of-household, not William.  With seven slaves, it's unlikely this man is hired help!
